IS PRIORITY ONE A
MEMBER'S BEST FRIEND?
It's not because of a lack of information that we last posted more than thirty days ago. To the contrary, we have an over-abundance of information and several leads that require review and confirmation.
Recently, Priority One Credit Union conducted another of its quarterly all-staff meetings though this year, unlike all other years, the meeting took place on Wednesday, April 15th at Almansor Court in Alhambra, California.
The location was chosen by COO, Beatrice Walker. We've learned that the reason for changing venues was to show the Board of Directors that unlike President Wiggington, she can unify employees and create a cohesive relationship between staff and management.
The decision to rent a large banquet hall seems more than a little peculiar when one considers over the past several months, the President and now, the COO, have introduced reductions in spending, including implementation of a company-wide wage freeze, the termination of four employees, and drastic reduction of the marketing and business development budgets. What's more, since May 2009, the President has insisted that he is reducing expenses, "streamlining", and "working smarter." The decision to hold the conference off-site and order catering, seems a contradiction to the President's so-called expense reduction efforts.
Add to this Ms. Walker's spending on remodeling of the South Pasadena and Burbank branches, including installation of wall-to-wall carpeting, painting, ordering emblems of the credit union's name installed at the South Pasadena and Burbank offices and the creation of an in-house call center and one might think that Priority One is riding the wave of unstoppable success. Well, they're not. They ended 2009 deep in the negative and the credit union is strictly enforcing expense reductions which apparently have their most profound effect upon employee salaries while the executive sector remains unaffected.
SOAP OPERA
But this year's meeting was unlike most other meetings conducted in previous years. As we've reported previously, late last year, Ms. Walker decided to use the quarterly business meeting to play the drama queen. Her performance was embarrassing and poorly executed and her intent was to target employees the President has described as "bloggers", "rebels", "haters", and their "confederates." Evidently, the President and Ms. Walker decided to misuse the first quarterly meeting of the year to continue their agendas to persecute those employees who they believe are trying to usurp their authority. It really is nothing more than an exercise in paranoia. No one could have predicted the spectacle the President and COO would create or the extent to which they'd go to misuse the gathering to further propagate their personal agendas.
The first meeting of the new year reminded us of last year's meeting during which President Wiggington and Beatrice Walker chose the event to perpetrate a ridiculous and embarrassing spectacle in which the COO talked about rumors allegedly spread by employees, which accused her of embezzling monies while employed by Honda Federal Credit Union. The poorly acted presentation was 100% unadulterated fraud, concocted by the President, the COO, and AVP, Rodger Smock. It's intent was to vilify this blog but their plot proved yet another embarrassing fiasco that fueled rumors about Ms. Walker. If their goal was to bring negative attention to the COO, then their ploy was a success.
And like the two last quarterly meetings conducted in 2009, the President was aloof and seemed preoccupied as he paced nervously back and forth at the back of the room. The meeting was scheduled to start 8:30 a.m. but by 8:50 a.m. it hadn't begun. At almost 9:30 a.m., the President was overheard exclaiming, "We can't wait any longer for him to arrive. Let's start." Ms. Walker who had stood across the room, kept her gaze on the President. Clearly, something was up.
Robert West arrived later and with a scowl on his face, looked suspiciously around the room, like a coyote assessing a farm yard.
When the meeting finally started, Ms. Walker used what have become standard "ice breakers" used to rally employees and create a sense of cohesiveness. With the assistance of the Director of Credit Resolutions, the two women tossed beach balls to attendees who in turn, tossed the balls at one another. "The Beach Ball Toss" is a widely known tactic and certainly not an invention of Ms. Walker's.
After beach balls were collected, AVP, Rodger Smock, lumbered to the podium and smilingly, welcomed all employees. He then sat behind the podium while Beatrice Walker spoke about the credit union's improved finances. Has Ms. Walker even seen the Monthly Income Statements and quarterly Financial Performance Reports?
However, the highpoint of the meeting was when Training and Education Manager, Robert West, stood at the podium and opening the Bible, read scripture which he used to condemn the "blog", "the blogger", and the "bloggers" who he labeled "haters." One of his more eloquent statements was “There are haters who want to see the credit union fail…. I think they’re called bloggers.”
Mr. West's performance, overshadowed Ms. Walker's embarrassing 2009 performance. Congratulations, we think. By the way, Mr. West, a former employee of Fiscal Federal Credit Union, read the lyrics from the song, Proud Mary, originally made famous by Tina Turner. As he read the lyrics from a piece of paper, he placed immense emphasis on the word, "churning" and compared the credit union's efforts to achieve excellent to a riverboat. Not only was his choice of metaphors particular, but his entire speech disturbing. He abruptly stopped reading the lyrics and stated, “I have been in meetings with the executive sector and they know what they are doing.” Yes, Mr. West has drunk the President's Kool-Aid.
Mr. West like the President, is a sub par manipulator. He thought himself clever maybe even brilliant but in the end came off as embarrassing and as deficient as his idol. He should also taken a moment to acquaint himself with what defines "haters" and what defines "bloggers." the words are neither synonymous or interchangeable. His adrenalin flowing, Mr. West next proceeded to read from the book of Proverbs in the Old Testament and used the following scripture to chastise the "haters."
Proverbs 25:21-22:
“If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them water to drink. In doing so, you will heap burning coals on their heads, and the Lord will reward you.”
Mr. West's weapon of choice was to the abuse of Biblical scripture all in an effort to win the approval of the President. What is surprising is that Mr. West is usually awkward and stand-offish and often acting as uncomfortable with this blog as is a warlock might be at a church picnic.
Mr. West concluded his oratory by addressing the blogger(s) and saying, “I hope you enjoyed your breakfast.”
As he walked away from the dais, the President rushed towards Mr. West and wrapping his arms around his neck, pressed his lips to Mr. West's ears and whispered something inaudible.
NOT AN A GOOD EXAMPLE
You you believe Mr. West took it upon himself to level an attack against this blog because his is an officer who chooses to adhere to policies and conducts himself in a manner above reproach, you would be wrong. To the contrary. Mr. West is self-indulgent. His efforts are to create an image of what he'd like people to believe he is, but nothing could be further from the truth.
Mr. West, the company Trainer and Education Manager has often been seen napping in his office during working hours. In 2005 and 2006, he spent months working on a personal, none-work related self-help book, while at work and using his company-assigned computer. By the way, his use of company equipment for personal reasons is a violation of policy.
The credit union's member service complaints can be attributed in part to Mr. West who is responsible for training staff and who evidently has failed to acculturate new employees to the credit union's business philosophy that members are the credit union's first priority. Employees who have participated in his training classes have described him as boring and ineffective.
On thing is certain. Like the President, Mr. West is contributor to the credit union's decline and there is nothing he has done to help reverse any of the many problems created by his patron, Charles R. Wiggington, Sr.
ANOTHER COMPLAINT
We received the following complaints from a retired postal worker. The elderly member is the victim of fraud and reported the theft of her monies to the credit union. The credit union chose not to respond in a timely or proactive manner and in doing so, subjected the member who is also a victim, unnecessary duress.
The second complaint concerns the refusal by the credit union to return monies to the member. The member moved is disabled and decided to move out-of-state. She closed her accounts and the credit union refuses to return the money from from her accounts.
"This complaint concerns two incidents. The first is the refusal by Priority One Credit Union to investigate my complaint that money was taken without authorization from my checking account by a former caregiver in 2009. The credit union never reimbursed any of the stolen money even though six stolen checks show a signature that there records show isn't mine and they issued a VISA check card in my name, to the former caregiver. The signature on the application for the VISA card does is not mine. The credit union did not follow due diligence and verify that the signatures were mine. The second complaint is that I requested the credit union close my accounts and return my money with interest but they now refuse to do so.
Complaint #1
In 2009, the compliance specialist at Priority One discovered that my former caregiver had accessed my checking accounts using my personal checks made payable in her name and on which she forged my signature; and withdrawn money from my account using my ATM card. At the time, the compliance specialist asked that I file a Suspicious Activity Report though Priority One never provided follow-up regarding what they concluded from their investigation nor was any of the money reimbursed to my account though 6 checks were involved in the forgery and clearly proving the signature on each was not my own.
The ATM withdrawals occurred primarily in Las Vegas, a city I have not visited in recent years. The compliance specialist identified fraud and immediately blocked my the debit card and initiated an investigation.
Priority One refuses to acknowledge or respond to the incident involving fraud, resulting in a tremendous loss of funds to my person. I originally relented from pursuing legal action against the credit union because of my age, my health and the time it would take to pursue legal recourse.
It should also be noted that when the President was informed about the theft he exclaimed, "We're not going to pay that. It's not our fault!" Obviously, the former Vice President of Operations is quite incapable of comprehending that if his staff had followed established protocols, they might have discovered that signature on the VISA check card application did not match the member's signature on file. Inarguably, it was the failure to follow standard banking procedures designed to protect members and the credit union that created the opportunity for theft perpetrated by the member's caregiver.
Records confirm that approximately $30,000 were stolen from the member's checking account, including the use of thefts containing her forged signature. Again, why didn't the credit union compare any of the signatures on the checks with those on file?
An additional $12,000 were taken using her VISA Check Card, yet at no time did anyone perform security procedures. As disclosed previously, the signature on the VISA Check Care Application was never compared with the member's signature on file. If the procedure had been followed the discrepancies in signature would likely have been identified.
An investigation has also confirmed that the thefts were all committed by the member's caregiver who is not related to the member. The VISA Check Card was issued by the Redlands branch. At the time the Branch Manager at the Redlands' branch was Joseph Garcia who is presently the Call Center Supervisor, the Real Estate and Consumer Loan Officer, and Credit Manager. Could a part of the problem stem from sub par staff training?

Complaint #2:
I also moved to Dayton, Ohio, and reside with my niece, Eugenia Horne. In a letter dated January 7, 2010, I asked the credit union to please close my accounts and forward all funds and interest to my new residence. In February 2010, I called Priority One to inquire about status of my request and was advised by Genevieve Rodriguez, a representative in the Member Services Department, that my letter dated January 7, 2010, had never been received.
I was asked to fax a copy of the original letter which I faxed to the credit union on 2/10/10. A few days later, I again called the credit union but was informed that they do not accept faxed requests. I was told I must mail an original, notarized letter to the member services department and that following receipt of my correspondence, they will release my funds. On February 22nd, I mailed a notarized letter which was sent via priority mail service. The credit union did not contact me and so on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, I called the credit union and was told by Genevieve Rodriguez Alexander that the credit union requires a “legal precedent” and that I should obtain the services of a financial advisor. I advised Genevieve that I do not have nor have ever had a financial advisor. According to Genevieve, the credit union cannot return my funds because my file contains a reference to elder abuse. She also said they require my Power of Attorney, but I have never given any one power of attorney over my finances.
Their refusal has adversely affected my personal finances and is causing me duress and physical stress. When I advised the credit union that I have never had power of attorney, they advised me I must provide this and that there is nothing they can do until I provide the requested proof. I was also told that I am unable to transfer money from my savings account to my checking account and thus no longer have access to my funds. Before leaving the company, the compliance officer informed me that she presented the portion of my claim which involves the unauthorized access of my account, to President Charles Wiggington and that he said the credit union would not reimburse me the stolen money because it was not their fault my former caregiver accessed my accounts. But if the credit union had compared the signature on file against the signature on the checks, they would have seen that they did not match, so isn't the credit union responsible?
Due to the time and energy it would require and with consideration to my health and age, I have avoided seeking legal recourse."
We spoke to an employee of the credit union who confirmed the member never has provided Power of Attorney to anyone. So why would the member be asked to provide Power of Attorney? Is Priority One committing elder abuse?
Last year, Training and Education Manager, Robert West, was asked by the President to write a new mission statement that would resonate President Wiggington's business philosophy and better express his view of the role played by the credit union in the lives of its members. Mr. West's rewritten statement describes Priority One as a "financial fitness center" possessing the ability to "help members and employees win with money." Is the ordeal the member is being subjected to by the credit union an example of financial fitness or of helping members "win with money."
AMBITIOUS
We'd like to begin by stating that being ambitious is not necessarily a negative and should never be confused with unscrupulous. That said, as we've reported previously, late last year, the exasperated Board of Directors began transferring much of the President's decision-making authority to COO, Beatrice Walker.
The Board's actions reveal they've placed their faith in the abilities of the COO while withdrawing their support of the President. Ms. Walker has quickly shown she is a clever manipulator. Within her first 6-months of employment, she wooed the Board and quickly gained their trust without yet proving that any of her decisions will have a positive long-term impact upon the credit union financial performance.
Over the past 10-months, she's also formed a clique - her inner sanctum, consisting of Director of Credit Resolutions, Yvonne Boutte, and Real Estate and Loan Manager, Call Center Supervisor, and Credit Manager, Joseph Garcia.
She's also leveled criticisms about President Wiggington, describing him as "unprofessional", "not President material", and "he doesn't know what he's doing." She has not concealed her plans to eventually be named successor to Mr. Wiggington and has said she intends on forcing AVP, Rodger Smock, into retirement because he is "too old", "useless", "ineffective" and "overpaid." She has also targeted the future removal of Training and Education Manager, Robert West, who she describes as "ineffective" and "unnecessary."
KNEE JERK REACTION
It's no secret that most of the Board of Directors reads this blog. Our publication is also read daily by President Wiggington and read frequently read by Training and Education Manager, Robert West. Credit Resolutions Director, Yvonne Boutte, and collections agent, Alex Suarez, also read this blog on a daily basis. And COO, Beatrice Walker, subscribes to Feed Burner so that she is notified on her cellular, each time someone posts a comment on this site.
What's more, the credit union frequently reacts to our reports by issuing threats of termination to employees, reminding staff that the credit union has a policy governing confidentiality, hiring consultants to search computers assigned to specific employees, hoping to find evidence that employees are reading this blog while at work and or sending confidential information to this blog.
The credit union's officers are so focused on this blog that they're literally neglecting business. As mentioned in previous posts, the credit union is experiencing amassing member complaints citing deficient member service despite the fact that in 2008, the President purchased a technically flawed $600,000 telephone system and earlier this year the COO spent more than $70,000 installing a new call center.
The incident regarding the member's account which was pillaged by her caregiver and the subsequent refusal by Priority One to return the stolen funds is but one incident of abuse committed by and under President Wiggington.
Recently, the COO, said that monies embezzled by a former receptionist of the Los Angeles branch will not be returned to member's accounts unless members file an actual physical paper claim. She and the President have also stated that monies will not be restored to accounts belonging to now deceased members, unless their beneficiaries file claims. Yes, it's illegal!
The COO's embarrassing display during a 2009 quarterly meeting and the even more embarrassing behavior of Training and Education Manager, Robert West, during this year's first quarterly meeting are all knee-jerk reactions to this blog. The credit union is stuck on defense mode and their stubbornness is affecting how they respond to employee concerns.
AMBUSH
The President's incompetence is not only attested to in the many business failures he's launched since January 1, 2007, the date he began his appointment to President, but in his free-wheeling, undisciplined spending of credit union funds which have included the hiring of Beatrice Walker at a salary in excess of $100,000; spending on remodeling of the South Pasadena and Burbank branches; purchase of a failed $600,000 phone system; installation of a failing Call Center; creation of an unnecessary AVP sector; and procurement of a $20 million loans whose monthly interest payments are hacking away sat the credit union's financial foundation.
But his obsession with spending is overshadowed by his obsession with this blog. During the recent quarterly all-staff meeting, he planned an ambush and apparently invited a guest who never showed up though that didn't deter the attention-starved Training and Education Manager, Robert West, from reading from the Bible in an apparent attempt to chastise the "blogger", "bloggers", and "haters." Whatever the President hoped to accomplish was undermined by his own outlandish and ridiculous display which served to further attest to the absurd lengths he will go to accomplish his emotionally-driven intents.
NEW INTRIGUE
In 2007, the President expressed keen interest in having former Post Master, James Smith, run for a seat on the Board. In fact, when Mr. Smith visited the South Pasadena branch, the President exclaimed loudly, "I need you on the board, man." The President's statement to Mr. Smith was made months before he was suspended while allegations that he sexually harassed a former employee were being investigated and before Board Chair, Diedra Harris-Brooks, squashed the evidence to ensure the President was reinstated. By the way, Mrs. Harris-Brooks has never made a secret of her disdain for Mr. Smith.
This year, the Board has remained unusually quiet about the current election. A week and a half ago, Mr. Smith arrived at the South Pasadena branch and was interviewed by to of the Board's Directors. Following conclusion of the meeting, he was escorted to the exit located on La France Avenue rather than being allowed to use the front entryway.
Unbeknownst to the Board Chair, the President has recently expressed tremendous support for Mr. Smith, stating he wants to see him serve as a Director. Should we construe the President's interest in Mr. Smock as an indicator that he's grown tired of Mrs. Harris-Brooks? He is certainly aware of her dislike for Mr. Smith who she was a subordinate of when she was employed by the postal service. And the President knows that if Mr. Smith is elected, it would conflict with Mrs. Harris-Brooks' very personal agendas.
This year's Mr. Smith's application to vie for a seat on the Board was decline because of adverse references contained in his credit report. We happen to know that there are Directors and Supervisors whose credit reports have incurred adverse references since they were first elected. Why haven't recently inquiries been performed and the officers removed commensurate with credit union by-laws?
We believe Mr. Wiggington would like to be free of the Board Chair who he owes everything to for reinstating him as President in spite of evidence he sexually harassed a former employee.
With Mr. Smith's application having been denied, the President has now turned his hopes to Gilbert Atwood, who will run against Director, Janice Irving. Mrs. Irving is the Director who in 2008, voted that the President be terminated when evidence proved he sexually harassed a former employee. She was of course out-voted and forever incurred the hatred of the President.
In 2009, the President and the Board Chair disrupted the credit union's electoral process, all to keep former Director, David Davidson, from being elected to the Supervisory Committee and to ensure the current Directors and Supervisors remained unchanged. However, their interference may have also impeded the President's future plans to find ways of placing candidates he prefers, like James Smith, on the Board or Supervisory Committee. Obviously and as usual, he didn't think that far ahead.
THIS PAST WEEK
This past week, the Training and Education Manager found his voice albeit it in an attempt to manipulate employees using cheap theatrics and misusing Biblical scripture to try and force "haters" into submission. It was a stupid move on his part and one that has sealed his reputation as President Wiggington's personal "tool."
The past week also revealed discord amongst the executive sector as the COO gathers her new authority to introduce changes that will supposedly create profit and also serve to show that Charles R. Wiggington, Sr. is an incompetent who has squandered hundreds of thousands of dollars on improvements that to date, have all failed to achieve their intended goals. As the COO recently revealed, her goal is to be President and apparently, we are witnessing her campaign.
The credit union reported Net Income for the month of February 2010, at $169,480,562.93.
On the surface, this appears to be an improvement but its not. The amount includes the $10 million unpaid balance due on the $20 million loan borrowed by the President in mid-2008. Thus, the actual and correct amount of the credit union's Net Income is $159,480,562.93. On January 1, 2007, the date Charles R. Wiggington. Sr. began his appointment as President, the credit union's net income was $172,250,649 revealing that under him, Net Income has decreased by approximately $13 million. This is clearly not progress, it is not improvement and it hardly validates the President's claims that he's "working smarter."

The member should get an attorney. If she never had a p of a and priority one is making her get one then they are breaking the law. She should also file a complaint with the DFI.

Your news letter is really bad, it’s always been bad in the past and also late but this one takes the cake. You are also so right about your new mission statement stinks and what the hell is financial fitness center all about a gym? Dumb, dumb, dumb, I remember when Harris was there I used to like to read the news letter and we had a nice looking ATM card and when I went shopping people would make good said nice things about the card it was different and it made me fell proud now everything stinks, 4 more payments and I can close my account and move to an other credit union.
If any one out there still speaks to Harris tell him is id very much missed at the credit union.
Did anyone notice that on the ballot for P1 they speak about both Gathers and Thomas
Both being on the board at P1 and give at lot of information about what they have done on the board and for Mrs. Irving they did not mention her only that she was the former secretary. Talk about stacking the deck, sounds like something Direda would do. Oh and both Gathers and Tomas have done nothing for the members so get the straight right now.

Diedra Harris-Brooks is an idiot. She let the ballots go out showing that lazy Bobbu Thomas attends stock holder meetings. Didn't she realize that credit union's don't have stock holders? And in 2008 she and useless Wiggington rigged the election so not all members go their ballots. Then they get caught and they have to hold the election again. When Dave Davidson put in his nomination, sneaky Diedra and useless Wiggington have some guy put his nomination after the deadline. Now they build up Mr Gathers, who was out a long time last year because he was ill and they build up Bobbie Thomas because she doesn't want to lose her claws over the board. They also write almost nothing about Janice Irving. Diedra and Wiggington are cut from the same cheap fabric. As for West, everyone knows he's a lousy trainer. No lie, just fact.

Why did they even have the meeting? What a waste. The best part was throwing balls. I was waiting for Bea and Yvonne to bounce the balls off each others heads. Last year Bea said 2 guys from Honda were going to tell us she didn't steal money and every body waited but no one appeared. Maybe the 2 guys changed their minds and didn't want to lie for her. This year Rodger says they were going to change the attendance policy and then never says how. Whats that about? Stupid. They do this crap all the time and leave everybdy hanging. Is this something Loren showed them? West is really Wiggington, Jr. Move over Chuckie, you got competition.
Whats going on at P1. I couldn't get through today. Waited and waited. What's going at that place? Maybe less money on new carpet and more attention to service.

The call center was Bea's baby all the way. She suggested, insisted on it, and designed it. Like that phone system Charles put in 3 years ago, she didn't study it because she wanted to prove she could do something great and different. You know who else does that? Male dogs. They pee on everything. The long waits and that poor staff that has to endure answering phones all day. Bea, Wigg and every other manager should spend 2 weeks on the phone, but of course that would take away from looking for BMWs on the internet, redecorating and not doing anything. Where is Mr Harris?
In 2009, during the quarterly meeting, Ms Walker exerted tremendous effort to let employees know she answered Priority One's ad for a COO.
Her explanation was unsolicited by employees. What's more, it seemed an excessive effort to try and convince employees of how she arrived at Priorty One.
Not so coincidentally, her explanation came just days after it was exposed on this blog that she had been seen many months earlier, in the company of President Wiggington, at Applebees Restaurant in Alhambra, CA.
Furthermore, in the days following her hiring, President Wiggington told some employees that he had Ms. Walker had known each other for sometime and that she answered his need for a COO to "help me do my work."
So based on the fact they were both seen by employees of the credit union months before she was hired and the president's own statements that they knew each other before she was hired, her explanation during the 2009 all employee meeting was untrue.
Its not that the reasons for her hiring are an issue, but one has to wonder why she was motivated to lie. The fabrication also attests to her character.
Mr. West thought he was Mike Tyson but he came off like Cicely Typson.
I read the member's complaint. That is horrible. I can't understand how the credit union can do what they did to her particularly when they have such a horrible reputation and should be trying to prove their image. Wiggington didn't care about his staff or members but the coo is focusing on redecorating and not service and on what she thinks is good not what is good for members.

You know what else tells you Wigg is an idiot? He made up stories to get people fired and in front of employees he talked about BMWs, sex with fat girls, people he didn't like, his family, and everything but business. He said he brought Bea to do his work, but has his power. WAs that part of his plan? The only difference between him and her is she has a little more education and she's a lot more sneaky. They're the same in the looks dept.

If managment didn't like being talked about they wouldn't do what they do. Last year Bea told employees the credit union was having a hard time and they would have to cut spending. Then a couple of days later she lays off 4employees. A weeks later they lay off more. Almost evey time they put a message on the intranet that they laid-off to save money. Then right after that Bea has her office remodeled with new carpet, paint, and art. She deos the same thing for Wiggington's office. Then she uses the credit union crdit card to buy her $5000 laptop which she took home and she recarpets the place and paints. Thats only a little bit of where she is spnding plus those silver letters in the lobby with the credit union name. Their not cheap. If they laid people off to save money and there spending all money but started spending like crazy to make the place look better can the laidoff employees sue? If you cutt back because you can't afford things and then taking the money you got from firing people and prettying up the place do the x-employees have any type of case?
I think all the ex-employees should bring a lawsuit against pocu. They lost their jobs because this lady wanted to go on a damn shopping spree. Roger still have his job even though what he did would have been grounds for termination anywhere but pocu. Both wiggington and roger violated the company phohibited conduct policy they wrote. Why are they still employed DOES THIS POLICY NOT APPLY TO ALL POCU EMPLOYEES?
You're right, the executive mgrs (they need to drop executive and replace it with idiots). From Wiggington sexually harassing an employee and talking about sex and slandering employees to Rodger not doing his job and now the coo who last year said the cu needed cut-backs and then started spending money everywhere and anywhere she could at the cost of employees jobs. The proof is in the pudding and her pudding stinks.
Unless the company committed discrimination, they probably can't sue - at lease for for most of the employees who got fired. Theresa made a suggestion that senior volunteer to cut their salary and the next day, Bea and Rodger black balled her. Same for Cathy Rollins who was fired for scolding an employee who got in a fight with another employee in front of members. They keep the two employees who got in a fight but they fire Cathy for scolding one of them for fighting.
Get rid of Gathers. He's gets drunk and embarrasses the credit union anywhere he goes. He is an obnoxious drunk and does it in public while representing the credit union.
Anyone who was offended with the staff meeting should file formal complaints regarding religious harrassment. The members should also report the credit union to DFI and get attorneys. Enough complaints and lawsuits can not be ignored.

You can't expect to get good customer service at the call center when they staff it with untrained administrative assistants, tellers that should have been fired because of differences, stock clerks and various other employees. Train these people or staff it with people who care. Phone calls rolling to another branch? Isn't that what the previous system did?
In a previous staff meeting, Joseph claimed that the new call center was paid for by the money raised from the Skip A payment program..Do you really believe that? Joseph has really turned into a mouth piece for Bea. I wonder if his wife knows about his butt sniffing.

I think Cathy does have a case because there are a lot of employees, present and past, who saw the way she got treated by Lynnette. And Theresa was singled out after she suggested management volunteer to a pay cut. A lot of us noticed how Bea turned around in her seat and just stared at Theresa and after that day, she stopped talking to Theresa. Funny how Bea and Wigg think that they exercise their right to be stupid but if anyone says anything they don't like, their out the door. Like someone wrote, they are alike in so many ways.

The April newsletter proves how second rate P1 is. On the front side of the newsletter, your read Wiggington's poorly written message. I wish he'd write about how he embarrased the cu and the employees. That would be more interesting. He ends his address and signs off. If you turn the newsletter over at the top it says, President's Message (continued from page 1). First of all, its the BACKSIDE of the same page and nowhere on the front page does it say continued on the BACKSIDE. Wiggington NEVER mentioned on the FRONT SIDE THAT he is continuing his address on the backside of the newsletter. And its such a looooooooooooong address, talking about financial fitness and winning with money. When is the last time someone at P1sent any member a letter or called a member at home and told them how they can help them "win with money"? Never.
In all the years newsletters have been printed, no one has ever made a point to say they co-wrote or contributed to an article. In April's letter, it says at the bottom of the address on the 2nd page, "with Robert West, Manager EDUCATION and TRAINING (contributing writer). If you know Robert you know that education and training are not words you ever associate with him. They made some money in March but it was a big drop from what THEY SAY they made in January and February. Wigg and Bea are twisting the truth. In November the board increased the loan allowance to cover P1's loan losses. In January P1 didn't use all of the loan allowance and so they took part of the left over allowance and applied it to the net income. Maybe moving money around is normal in business but they didn't suddenly get rich because they got a lot of new business. They did get more loans in January and February but that is slowing down and it hasn't been enought to jump start the credit union. They are worried even though they say they are doing great and everything is wonderful and they've achieved Nirvana. Sorry, no way. In '08 they borrowed $20 million to pump up their asset worth and now they move some money around to pump up up their net income for Jan and Feb. Delinquencis are really high and growing and new memberships n are offset by memberships that close. They are so busy trying to get new members that they are forgetting to develop their old members. That's CU 101 by the way.
It doesn't make sense that you end December in the pooper and you're flying high in January and February. Only a moron would believe that. Put that in your Facebook page!

As we all know by now members are NOT the first priority. You already feel bad about your situation and then you have some STUPID ASS call you and make you feel like a total failure. Ever since Wigg ceated an in-house collection dept, the attitude of the collectors is horrible. They think that collecting money means ripping members apart and yelling at them. They even gossip about members in front of other employees from other departments.
They call people who are references on loans and tell them that the person who took the loan is not returning calls and that he or she owes money. Isn't that a privacy act violation? If you ever get a chance to meet the collectors you'll see their just a bunch of misfits like Wiggington. Collections is a challenge but why abuse people and destroy your relationship with members?

As a owner/member I did not approve of the new tables for lounge room. I demand you take the tables back and have the owners/members vote on to buy new tables or NOT.

You used to be able to call their branches until somebody got the bright idea that all calls should come through at one number. I called because I wanted to speak to someone at the LA branch but got someone in Valencia. They said they would transfer me to L.A but someone in Burbank answered the call. They transferred me to LA. Lucky Priority 1 is focusing on buying new tables and umbrellas.

The problems at P1 run deep. Last year was the financials but all along it has been the environment. Its not healthy and so bad for a lot of employees and some managers. The bad managers thrive like mushrooms in crap. Its horrible and its miserable and no one knows it better than members who are always talking about how nice it used to be and how terrible it is now. We had a member from P1 come to our credit union and tell us how much he hates going to the south pasadena office. He said people look miserable, employees are unfriendly and the place has changed. He also said they should have kicked out Wiggington and the donkey he rode in on.
And you thought things could not be any badder under wiggs, now look how badder things are under this bitch.

The cu made money when Mr Harris was president without remodeling the president's office, recarpeting the entire office, painting the walls, putting up silver letters in the lobby and setting up a call center and without hiring a coo. So is paint supposed to cover poor customer service and hide a lousy call center or cover up bad morale.
After becoming president, Wigg made lots of promises and offered people jobs when there was no openings and he promised people loans when they didn't qualify. When they didn't get the job or loans they would call him and every dept at the cu but he never returned any calls.
At the cu its never about whats good or right or about members, its only about wht is good for management.
2007-2010 prove Wigg is the biggest loser to run any credit union. Back in 07 he name Aaron, Liz, Sylvia, and Jody to be AVPs and said each one was going to pump up sales in their territory.
By 2009, Aaron had been fired after he and Wigg had a big fight and Liz was gone after they proved she kited. Valencia and Van Nuys were taken away from Sylvia because she was always riding the two branch managers. They did just great without her and they took the offices away from her. Now she's in Burbank. She's an AVP of one branch! In what other cu do you see 1 AVP over a branch? None because that would make her a branch mgr not a AVP! She's can praise the lord and twist a dagger at the same time.
After he was told to fire Liz Wigg was told to make Lynnette an AVP. She is the AVP at LAPDC where there have been 2 employee fights in 6 months and were $53,000 were stolen. Wiggs phone system cost more than half a million dollars and sucked. He brought shared branching and that has hardly been the success he said it would be. He got rid of the marketing director because he thought a bunch of people who don't have experience in marketing could do what the director did. Now they had to hire a marketing person. He couldn't see that? He took a member's car, sexually harrassed an employee, tried to get his buddy Henry Justice back into the cu even after the guy ripped off the credit union for more than $80,000. He hasn't done one damn thing for the crdit union, the employees or the members. You can also blame that usesless board who that black means success. Ever check out Diedra Saffold Gathers or Thomas? There's nothing there. Just a lot of hot useless air.

A lot of times Wigg said he's president because he's got what it takes. He proved that wasn't true, didn't he? After he became president he sat in the lunch room and said people were jealous of him and were out to get him. Homeboy has one foot in la la land and the other in the toilet. No one wants to be a big mouth ghetto black man so there's nothing to be jealous of.
And Loren wasn't brought in to see where employees fit best. He was brought in to see which ones were the "enemy" so they could be fired. He also said Bea is his friend and because of the economy there wasn't as much work for him so she brought him in and paid him big bucks to help him out. The credit union didn't need an expensive consultant. And everyone knows the phone center sucks. If it didn't then why would Bea have FINALLY ordered that calls to go to Valencia and the Los Angeles branch? She knows the center is a failure she just doesn't want anyone to say it out loud. Its always easier to lay new carpet down and paint a wall, add new blinds and buy some umbrellas then give good service. You wonder why she has had so many jobs in the last 12 years.

And Loren wasn't brought in to see where employees fit best. He was brought in to see which ones were the "enemy" so they could be fired. He also said Bea is his friend and because of the economy there wasn't as much work for him so she brought him in and paid him big bucks to help him out. The credit union didn't need an expensive consultant.

I worked at a bank and I work at a credit union and never saw drama like what goies on at Priority 1. I never heard any president go about talking about who was out to get him or who he fired or who was jealous of him. I know banks get a bad rap for abusing power but obviously so do some managers of some credit unions. I can't even explain how Priority 1 could lose millions and still spend like there's no tomorrow. You have to look for what at Priority 1 makes managment act the way they do. Maybe that's where change begins.
Charles was hired by Mr Weston not Mr. Harris. In front of Mr Weston and Mr Harris Charles acted like he liked them but behind their backs he was the same thing you see today. Rotten. When Charles found out the board asked Mr Harris to stay til Dec 06, he got so mad and had a meeting with Manny and Roger to complain. After Mr Harris left he talked horribly about Mr Harris. When Generis died, Mr Harris went to the funeral but Charles ignored him. That's how much of a low life he is. They should have kicked his ass to the curb before he hurt so many people. If the board wanted black there were a lot of black men and women who would have made great presidents but they chose the village idiot instead.
They keep saying loans are way up and money is coming in but no one is getting raises and they are cutting back. Now they are cutting back on the courier service and they want everyone to watch spending except for paining and carpeting and new this and new that. None of it makes sensse. Are they crazy????????

So what's wrong with this picture....at the end of January they show income of some $200k...and it looks like things are looking up at good ol P1.
Well now the 1st Qtr Call report is up the NCUAs site and they show $310,000 net income. So they make $200k the first month and just $55 for Feb. and March??
Sounds a little strange wouldn't you agree? But wait, they transferred just $393 dollars to reserves for the quarter but they made $310,000?? Where's all that money going? Or does it even exist?

They are not only playing with the loan allowance, they are still stale dating delinquencies and posting $ in accounts where they don't belong. Nothing has changed.
Look at their rates on their website. Savings rates are almost nothing but the certificate rates are a joke. 0.0% on $100,000. What is that about?
A the extra fees they charge for priority pay. They didn't even ask members if they wanted it, they just signed them up automatically. Shouldn't it be voluntary?
Indeed the call report is very fishy; things do not look right but of course when you have Bea and Charles in charger, the cheats and liars you know someone cook the books!

Loren's relationship with Bea is very suspicious. I am not impressed with the man. The test he gave was so bogus. Depending on your mood, you could manipulate the answers. If Bea uses the test to determine who to fire, it could be subject to a law suit because there was no disclosure about it. However, she doesn't care. She is one of the coldest people I know. With Manny gone, what honest person is there to keep the books? Wiggs? Bea? What a joke. All we can hope for is that the regulators come in and shut P1 down and sell it to a legitamite credit union. How would that look on Bea's resume.

There isn't anything impressive about what Bea does. She has never had her priorities straight. What I read tells me that she finds new carpet more important than employee relations. But you'll be glad to know, she was this same way when she was working for other companies.

Yes, the person spending so much money fixing up your credit union used take care of Electricore's financial planning and compliance to agreements and helped with employee benefits. Its hard to believe but she spent more than 18 years working with credit unions and was a VP with Universal Studios Credit Union though the president at that credit union was displeased with her performance.
She left Electricore suddenly because Priority One offered her big bucks. Pretty is as pretty does.
Have you seen her FB, her pages are more linked to interior decorating than financial institutions. POCU is the only CU she has on her pages.

Its been released and its name is Bea.
It looks like moving all that money around is catching up to P1 and if you look at their reports, they don't explain why they are making so little money. We know they took some of their loan allowance and put it into Jan's financials which made them look like they made money, but they made less than $60,000 in Feb and Mar and almost nothing in April. Why is Bea, Wigg and Joseph telling people everything is getting better? Its all bull crap. You can't blame Wigg this time because its all Bea. This is the same Bea who used to work for Electricore, Honda FCU, Universal Studios FCU, Pasadena Schools Federal Credit Union, US Postal Service FCU and who knows how many other companies.
She spent all that member and cu money on Loren Lillestrand, painting,recarpeted, new art for her office and Wiggs, new blinds, a $5000 laptop, new floors for the lounge room, & new umbrellas, the call center and who knows what else that she's hiding. Last month the same carpeters who installed the rugs at South Pas showed up at her house to do work. Did she charge that on her personal credit card or the cu's?
She is as ignorant as Wigg but he's prettier. She'll prbably make more people lose their jobs so she can continue spending. And where is she going to report all that spending, under depreciation? I don't know whose auditing them but they should prove everything including depreciation! What's she going to do next, spend cu money on getting a face transplant? She's no better than Wigg. I'm saddened by what's happened to this blog...what started out as questions about alleged misdeeds at P1 has turned south and more often than not is now just name calling directed at various staff members of P1.
I confess that I got a laugh or two when I originally read some of the posts, but have grown tired of it all because it is the same old rant. We all know that Wig and Bea and Loren and Gema are not liked and have done some very questionable things, but I for one, would like to see more factual information about the what's really happening at the CU rather than just name calling. Employees at P1 should look around for the the real things that would catch the attention of the regulators....Are they really playing lose with the books? What's up with the Allowance for Loan Loss? Are their delinquencies improving or getting worse? Are they making loans? What are members saying to staff when they visit branches? What is staff telling members. Have auditors been in the HQ lately? How about the NCUA? These and many more questions seem to have gotten side tracked and should be reconsidered.
It's my bet that no one at P1 really wants to lose their job...not in this market with unemployment in LA still above 10%...so what are you doing to try to make it better?
I have to agree, at times the posts are caustic and certainly references to physical references don't contribute to finding a resolution. Loan funding has increased but so have delinquencies and problems affecting member service are higher now than they were before the new call center was implemented. But I have to disagree with the statement of ranting. There is a psychological impact caused by poor management and lets face it, Mr. Wiggington's scandals have lent a tremendous blow against this once wonderful credit union. They are state-chartered and so its not the NCUA who oversees them directly but the DFI. The government has setup a system which does not protect employees who complain. Any complaint is forwarded to the company and though its illegal to retaliate the fact is they can. And your question about how employees are trying to make things better seems to ignore a real record of abuse from upper management. Why don't you suggest how one creates a better working environment when dishonesty and corruption infest the management sector? Criticisms are noted but where is YOUR suggested solution? Certainly paying consultants to change employees is not the answer when you have Wiggington and now, Bea Walker, doing nothing to improve the environment and creating a workplace filled with fear doesn't seem to be a very good solution, does it?
The frustration of the employees are being expressed in this blog.Sometimes, granted, it is inappropriate and turns into bashing. However, what is an employee to do? The board & supervisory committee are corrupt, the senior management is vindictive, ineffective, dishonest and definately not trust worthy.They have their own interest in mind. You can't complain about anything inappropriate or unfair because Esmeralda is Gema's cousin and nobody investigates. Wiggington & Smock are guilty of their own transgressions.If DFI comes in, POCU shows them the second set of books so they do nothing. Not a damn thing! Here's some advice. If you are going to manipulate, start by putting on a good game face. Records show that Charles R. Wiggington took a car from a former member. Visit the DMV and ask them to show you the record. The lawyer the CU hired has the statements of all the employees that said he sexually harrassed Kim Burke. Oh yes, the pesky financials the CU posted from Jan to Dec 2009, showg that the CU fell and stayed in the red for a whole year. By the way, just in case you don't know, their headed there again. Well, Mr. Management or consultant or whatever you are, auditors have been there, including the NCUA, the DFI, CUMIS and more. In fact there were more auditors there the last few months then there have been in past years. And if you were as smart as you pretend to be you would know the CU is state-chartered which means the DFI oversees their activity.

Okay...I guess I need to clarify a few things because the point of my last post seemed to have been lost on a few readers.
1) I agree with you that there are some major scumbags at P1 and that they have ruined the CU;
2) I'm not management at P1 and do not support their actions...just tired of the name calling...we all get it, they are losers;
3) I'm well aware that P1 is a state-chartered CU and is regulated by the DFI, however, even state chartered CUs are audited by the NCUA every 18 to 24 months (more often if they are deemed in trouble) because they control the insurance fund (not the DFI) so they have a vested interest in making sure a CU is healthy. The sooner they can shut down a unhealthy CU the less possible loss there is to the fund. The problem is there are a lot of CUs with worse numbers than P1 so they may be just waiting to see if this ship will stop sinking;
4). Regulators will not pay much attention to the name calling but they might be interested to know more about two sets of books...if there is any evidence that can be mailed to the DFI and/or NCUA to that regard... do it!
5) Thanks for calling me names but I will not reciprocate.
6) Gather and post as much evidence of real mismanagement as you can and hope the regulators take notice....if they don't, good luck to all the good employees who have been wronged by the evil ones, but I would start revising your resume now....I was on the low side about unemployment in LA yesterday...it's not 10% but over 12%!!
I was going to post a response to you yesterday because it really looked like you were blaming employees. Thanks for clarifying. When you call the DFI they tell you they will send your complaint with your name to the credit union. If an employee doesn't care about their job, then sure, send in the complaint and wait to be fired and join the other more than 12% who are unemployed. Some people at the DFI will even tell you this might happen. Government wants you to report wrong doing but their rules place you in danger of getting fired.
What Wiggington has done is already proven but who do you blame, him, the board or the government? A few board members who stood up to Diedra and the other lame board members, got shot down. Don't believe it? What happened to Shipp, Davidson and Mrs Irving? Bea Walker is only there because the board realize that this blog said the truth about Wiggington and their financials proved it! Bea is as awful in the inside as she is to look at and she manipulates, backstabs, and her big performance in 09 showed she will lie to get what she wants (though that blew up her face, no pun intended).
All the hard work of all those past presidents because of one big moron who thought behaving stupid would help run the credit union.
A lot of people know th DFI and
NCUA are watching the credit union and they know about this blog but how does that helpe the CU or employees? The members could do something but they don't care enough and would rather just close their accounts then step up and step in.
Wigg is the one who started the in group and out group. If he liked you, you were in if not, you were ut. Bea did the same thing. Its so like high school. What Wigg and Bea don't see is that the only reason people talk to them at work is because they have to. You would probably not find one employee except maybe Jospeh and Yvonne who would ever want to spend time outside of work with Wigg or Bea. There just the kind a people you don't want to be seen with.
They didn't post April's numbers and its almost June. What are they hiding? When they said they had made money they posted the numbers in 3 days. You always know when they lose money? I guess time to contact the dfi.

They can demand that Bea explain where money is being spent and why she made redecorating a priority when the credit union was in the negative all of 2009. Members have the power. Members could also ask the DFI to investigate and even ask that the board be replaced.
The board and supervisory committee know everything that bea has done and is now doing. And if they don't know whats happening they shouldn't be there and should be fired. They let bea bring in loren didn't they? There has never been a bigger sham artist than loren and they fell for it hook, line and sinker. Makes you wonder if the board and supervisory committe get it. They let this woman lay off employees and then she went on a decorating spending spree. She is now hiring more people. Can anyone name something bea has done that is a success? New carpet and a coat of paint is not going to do anything if the cu services are bad.
Has anyone noticed that the credit union hasn't announced on their website when the annual meeting is going to take place? Last year they screwed with the election and had to do it again and then they screwed with the second election.
Last week they put out a notice for only employees announcing the meeting. It turns out the board, the ceo, and the new coo don't want members to attend. Aren't members also owners or has that changed at P1? In case you're curious heres the notice they sent out to ONLY employees. By the way it was sent out by HR and the Training Manager, Robert West. You know the same guy who called employees haters and is supposed to be a christian.

They meant "please come and support your credit union if you're not a member." And they should have added, "Reaching new heights together without the members of course."
This credit union is screwed to the max.
I think they posted the notice in the April newsletter though in past they always posted it on their web page. Of course back then they didn't have anything to hide. The big question is did they post it at their branches? If I were Wigg or Diedra or Bea, I wouldn't want members to attend either.

Its shoved in a corner even though they could have put it on the front of the newsletter. Wonder if they are going to have security like they did last year when Wigg told the board there was going to be a riot and he was afraid for his life. Maybe they'll use some of that decorating money to hire sharp shooters.

Wigg is pathetic. He is so bent on bring attention to himself he would make up stories that people are after him. Wishful thinking, no one wants any part of a sexual harrasser.
Wednesday they'll annouonce who won the election though its a joke now. Last year they interfered with the election and they did it again this year. Did you see Mrs. Irving's qualifications. They were shorter than the other candidates. Except for Marchica, the board is all black and run by Diedra who knows less about being a chairperson then she did about working for the usps. Its pathetic.
Bea reminds me of the story of the little girl who got rejected all her life and when she grew up she got even with everyone. She's nothing more than a bully and treats the carpet better then she treats people or her face. She would have made a good pit bull.

What Bea has done done at other companies is what she is doing at P1. Her past employers can testify to how bad she is. Does she sit in her office all day long? Does she come in late and take long lunches? Are her priorities all wrong? Does she focus on things like decorating but cut back on things to help the business grow? Does she promote people that don't have experience or education for their positons? Does she value ass kissing more than hard work? If the answers are yes then that's the same Bea that has made other companies miserable.
Its been said time and time again, the problem at P1 is the board. They are responsible for everything Wigg did to bring down the business and even justified him sexually harrassing an employee. They are responsible for hiring Bea without first investigating her reputation in the industry. It will be interesting to see if they succeeded (which they probably did) in getting the candidates they wanted on the board so that they could preserve their ignorant team. If you plan on attending the annual meeting on Wednesday, think about it as its a joke and completely fixed. You can thank control freak Diedra Harris Brooks for that.

Talk about sucking blood. Tonight was the annual meeting. What a joke and a bunch of lies. Diedra said the credit union is doing great. Didn't she read April's report? Wigg got up and spoke while Bea did something she never does, sit and keep her big mouth shut. He lied too and said the credit union is doing really well. Guess he didn't see April's report either. Mrs. Irving came in first!!! Guess Diedra and Wigg couldn't kick her out. Useless Bobby Thomas came in 2nd. Thomas Gathers came in 3rd but he got a the seat Yolanda Porter used to have before she died. Gilbert Atwood lost. I wonder if his wife is sorry that she complimented P1 on there FB page? Diedra thanked Joseph Garcia for changing the cu. Diedra doesn't work there so she got her information from Bea. Jospeh is over loans and he doesn't know much about consumer loans and nothing about real estate loans. The only reason he is over loans is because he tells Bea's she's pretty when everyone knows she's not. Just another pack of lies by a big pack of liars. And Bea, nice outfit. Next time you go to Vons spend $5 on some makeup.

The annual meeting was nothing but another pile of bull crap. They passed out 09's annual report and it just shows losses for the whole year. Yesterday I saw April's report and their in the negative again. If you're in the negative then how can Diedra say things are great. She must have hit her head when she fell off her broom stick.
What's up with all the titles Bea is giving out? She's giving secret promotions but not announcing it. She changed Yvonne from Credit Resolutions Manager to Director of Project Management. She changed Joseph from temp Call Center manager to Call Center Manager and added Loan Manager Credit Manager too. Now Johnny goes from security guard in the lobby to teller, to fsr, to call center representative to Call Center Lead. And they all got raises when people who actually work have been getting the same pay for years. She doesn't promote on ability but who she likes based on the lies they tell her. She should know that no one in the real world would ever compliment her.

Workplace Checklist: How Toxic Is Yours? -- PART II
Nobody loves going to work all the time--but there's a difference between routine workplace hassles and a working environment that stresses you out to the point of illness, according to Linnda Durre, the author of "Surviving the Toxic Workplace."
Any one of these issues indicates a toxic environment and should not be tolerated, according to Durre. And if you've got check marks next to items in more than one category, your workplace may be dangerously poisonous. Unfortunately, employees often believe that these problems are the cost of doing business and must be endured. "Many workers believe they are helpless to change the situation and suffer devastating physical problems from the stress and anger," Durre says.
Detoxifying your workplace
How you respond to any of these problem areas depends on you, on the level of threat the situation poses, and on the supportiveness of the company.
Confront, politely. You should be able to resolve many interpersonal problems--gossipers, time wasters, and game players--without intervention, according to Hilka Klinkenberg, founder and managing director of Etiquette International.
"If someone's always invading your space, for example, you can say you need to work and you'll speak with them later," she says. "If someone is talking loudly, you can say, 'You have a good, strong voice, but it's hard to concentrate when you speak at that volume.' When teammates waste your time, tell them what will help you meet your deadline. But don't vent and don't blame. Present every issue in terms of a solution, not a problem."

Do not confront. Situations where you're in physical danger should be handled as if you're meeting a bear in the woods: back away slowly and don't antagonize. But don't let it go. Report the problem to HR or to your supervisor if there is no HR department. If your supervisor is the threat, seek the next higher level--or in extreme cases, the police.
Go higher. If your boss won't resolve the problem (or is the problem) and if HR doesn't resolve the problem (or is part of the problem), you still have options, according to Durre.
"You can get an attorney or even hire a lawyer to write a letter merely threatening to sue, and you don't have to spend thousands of dollars to do it," she says. If you are part of a union, let them handle it. If you are part of a professional organization, tell them about it and recommend that the offending party's license be revoked." If it's an illegal or unethical situation, you can threaten to bring the situation to the media," Durre adds. "Companies hate bad publicity."
Have back up. When HR becomes involved, you'll need documentation to prove your case. Keep scrupulous records by writing down who said and did what, and when. It's even better if you have other coworkers who witnessed the situation and are willing to go to bat for you.
Plan your exit. Some companies have a culture of dysfunction. If the toxicity is coming from the top down, and it bothers you a lot, you're better off coming up with an exit strategy, according to Marie McIntyre, author, columnist, and creator of YourOfficeCoach.com.
"You can't change a corporate culture on your own," McIntyre says. "Give yourself a timeline for leaving, and start working on it. Just focusing on a more positive future will help your stress level while you're still in that negative environment."
You shouldn't have to leave just because of a bad boss or insufferable coworkers. But if the situation prompts you to start the company you've always dreamed about, that's not such a bad thing. The bottom line is, you don't have to suffer in silence. "The workplace shouldn't have to be nasty," Durre says. "It should be and can be a win-win for everyone."
